LAFAYETTE ST LOBBY

The Lafayette Street Lobby renovation for GFP Real Estate reimagines the entry of 436 Lafayette Street, a six-story cast-iron building designed by Edward H. Kendall in 1871 as a carriage warehouse and later home to Alfred Benjamin & Co., a celebrated New York clothier. Re: Design Architects drew from this rich heritage to transform the once-dim, dated lobby into a welcoming, light-filled space that honors the building’s architectural roots. A barrel-vaulted ceiling arch, hand-laid mosaic tile flooring, and black-stained white-oak paneling evoke turn-of-the-century craftsmanship, while a modern A-N-D chandelier and refined color palette bring a fresh, contemporary tone. Situated in NoHo, steps from NYU and The Public Theater, the updated lobby now reflects the energy and history of its surroundings.
